What caused the death of Mohbad?

The mysterious death of Nigerian singer/rapper Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has sparked widespread outrage, leading fans to take to the streets in protest. Mohbad tragically passed away on September 12 at the age of 27, just after performing for a large crowd at a concert.

According to his father, the rapper visited the hospital where a nurse administered an injection. The hospital’s report indicates that the singer died from an ear infection, adding to more speculations and conspiracy theories surrounding his demise.

Mohbad’s burial took place three days after his death without an autopsy, further fueling questions about the cause of death. It is worth noting that the artist was engaged in a bitter dispute with his former label, Marlian Music, over unpaid royalties. He accused label owner Naira Marley of making threats and physically assaulting him, even sharing videos of being chased by a mob and harassed on stage.

In June 2023, the singer lodged a complaint with the Nigerian police against producer Sam Larry , an associate of Naira Marley, accusing him of threats, assault, and causing N5 million worth of equipment damage. In response to Mohbad’s tragic passing, his fans have launched an online petition with over 50,000 signatures, urging for the ban of the label and its music. The singer is survived by his 5-month-old son and fiancé.
